Steve Jobs just announced that iPhone OS 4.0 will have support for multitasking so you can run multiple apps on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. For example, you can have a Twitter client or your Mail Application running in background while you are checking web pages in Safari.

The iPhone OS 4.0 firmware for iPhone and iPod Touch (3rd generation only) will be available for download in Summer while iPad users will have to wait until fall (around September) to enable multitasking on their tablets.

This is funny because the current version of iPhone is OS 3.1.3 while iPads are shipping with OS 3.2. With OS 4.0 coming out this Summer, iPhone users will have a more advanced version of iPhone OS running on their mobile devices.
