Producing Screencast Video for YouTube: Optimized Settings for Good Quality

If you are producing screencast videos for uploading to YouTube, Google Video, Blip.tv or other places, use the following audio and video compression settings for most optimized results - best video quality, clear text and lowest video file size.

Roberts Doug derived this screen recording video preset for Camtasia Studio but it should be good enough for other screencast or video editing software as well:

Video Format - Quicktime MOV (Frame Rate:15 fps Compression: H.264 Codec, Quality: Medium, Keyframe: Auto)

Sound: Compression: MPEG-4 Audio, Sample rate: 48.000 kHz 16 bit Mono (not stereo)

Video Size: Stretch to Fit, Standard Video Size: 320×240 [YouTube FLV video size] Watermark optional.

YouTube FLV video files are encoded using Sorenson Spark H.263 Flash video codec, 4:3 aspect ratio. Video Codecs, Frame Rate for Screencasts
