Keyboard Shortcut to Jump Over Words

This simple keyboard shortcut allows you to jump over words while editing text in almost any Windows application.

CTRL+Right arrow jumps the cursor forward to the next word while CTRL+Left arrow will move the cursor to the beginning of the previous word.  This is more efficient than using arrow keys where you can move only one character at a time.

And the keyboard shortcut works in the address bars of web browsers as well.

Amit this is a really useful tip

And holding down SHIFT while you do this will usually help you select complete words instead of one letter at a time.

These are old keyboard tricks I’ve been using right from the start.

Good tip! Just that I have been using it for ages that I am surprised how this got into a “hi-tech blog” which I always lookup for new tricks and techniques :)

Perhaps, the law of averages catching on?

Hi Amit,

simple but powerful tip.

I wonder how did you make this cool gif file for this. Are there any tool to create this?

I am eager to hear that.

Very simple advice

For everyone who is complaining about this tip…did you ever consider that there might be people out there (like me) who just might not have known about this rather handy keyboard shortcut? And that just maybe he was posting this “old, stone age” tip to try to let people know about it who might not be aware of it? Give him a break! Geesh!
