How to Read Feeds in FeedDemon When Newsgator Online Is Offline

newsgator-sync Newsgator Online service suffered some outage this morning as it failed to retrieve new content from RSS feeds for several hours.

The issue is now resolved but during the downtime, none of their desktop RSS readers worked because they both download new content via Newsgator Online and do not fetch feeds directly from the source website(s).

If your work is affected during such outages, here’s what you can do to continue reading RSS feeds in FeedDemon or NetNewsWire even if the main Newsgator service goes offline - just disable synchronization temporarily.

disable-synchronization

Before you turn off synchronization, it is a good idea to backup the RSS subscription list as an OPML (go to File -> Export) to prevent losing any data.

Now open Synchronization Options dialog from Tools menu and deselect all the subscribed folders. Click OK and now FeedDemon (and NetNewsWire) will work independently of Newsgator Online.

When the Newsgator service is up and running again, you can re-enable synchronization. Thanks David.
