Open notepad in Windows and type .LOG on the first line, and then press ENTER to move to the next line.
Save the file as todo.txt on your hard drive and exit.
Open the file and type anything. When you next open the file, note that the date and time have been appended to the end of the log, immediately preceding the place where new text can be added.
Repeat this to save a log of your day while notepad will auto add the date and time for you.l

Wow Amit, this is so great. Just a few thoughts: (1) Is this a feature or just a secret find (meaning will it continue to be supported in future versions of notepad?) (2) Can the format of date be altered? (3) I was actually looking for a way to have a shortcut on my desktop to a notepad which is saved on internet somewhere so its easy to work on multiple computers
Thanks a ton. BTW, there was a post “Quicklogger” by Gina Trapani in lifehacker sometime back. Until now I thought that was the simplest solution. This one is cool.
