Mozy currently offers two versions of their online backup software – MozyHome and MozyPro. The former is more suited for home consumers as it allows unlimited backup space for your data at the reasonable price. Mozy, which is available for both Windows and Mac, is owned by EMC.
A: During installation, Mozy scans your hard drive and categorizes all of your data files into backup sets such as documents, digital photos, music files, emails, and so on. You can also add files and folders to your backup list by right-clicking on the file or folder in Windows Explorer.
After your initial backup, subsequent backups are relatively quick because Mozy performs differential backups – it only backs up the portions of your files that have changed since the last time they were backed up.
B: You can customize when and how often Mozy should back up your computer. With the Automatic option, backups occur only when your computer is not in use or you can go for the scheduled option where you can specify the exact time when Mozy should perform the backup.
C: You can restore files from the backup either through the Mozy desktop client or using the Mozy virtual drives that’s available inside Windows Explorer. Alternatively, you may just right click a folder in Windows Explorer and choose “Restore previous version.”
Mozy can also send you backups on DVDs through FedEx – you will have to pay $29.95 processing fee plus $0.50 per GB of data.
