Windows XP Service Pack 3 (XP SP3) will be available for download in Q2 2008 or about three yars after XP SP3 was released by Microsoft.
Paul reasons why Windows XP SP3 was delayed this long:
Microsoft was forced to temporarily halt development on Windows Vista in order to complete XP SP2. That’s because this release, though provided to customers for free as a typical service pack, was in fact a major OS upgrade and was developed outside of the company’s support structure, a first for any service pack release. After XP SP2 was completed, the people involved with that project moved onto other things, typically Vista or Windows Server 2008.
In the case of Windows XP SP3, Microsoft simply dedicated every available employee it could to completing Windows Vista, which by that time was years behind schedule. So it’s only been since the beginning of this year that anyone turned their attention back to XP’s next and neglected service pack. Link.

I have long been awaiting the New XP_SP3 and it has been 4 years since XP_SP2 came out.
I have tried the XP_SP3 RC1 (build 3264), tjis seemed to work OK.
Then of course the New XP_SP3 RC2 (build 3311), this release candidate has alot to be desired, It hangs up (Slow) on this unit. It is like I said, when the full release comes out and that is when Microsoft gets off their hi horse and decides to put there efforts into it. Windows XP for what I have seen is the best program that Microsoft has build in my point of view and of course the millions that beleive what I do. Vista which is being pushed into everybodies throat is not what it is made out to be, Even the New computers that come with Vista have issues never mind the other 60 million that have computers over 4 years old that will not handle Vista do to the excessive use of memory, cpu, updated hardware and of course drive space. I am not saying that the program is bad but rather the resouce use.
So I will say as the other’s say, GET ALONG with the new SP3. It is hard as a company to drop the new money maker (Vista) and not upgrade the working program (XP)that is not going to put anything back into the pocket of the Microsoft Industry. I can understand but both programs are good programs, keep them both up to date and see how the public reacts, I think that you will find that 63% will try to keep Windows XP.
