Compare Jing with Skitch – Screencasting Software for Mac

Jing vs Skitch – Paul compares the two most popular screencasting software for Mac that are also free.

Jing can do screenshots as well as video capture (SWF) while Skitch is only for still screen captures. Both have excellent annotation tools but Skitch wins when it comes to adding effects like drop shadows to your screen shots.

Paul recommends Plasq Skitch for still screensot images but you also need Jing to record quick video of your desktop screen. So if you are on a mac, you need both. Link.

The maximum length for screencast videos in Jing is 5 minutes. If that sounds limiting, wait for the Mac version of Camtasia Studio 6 that comes later this year or use Snapz Pro.

Aha! Ive always wanted to know the real difference between the two services. I like that Jing can do screencasts. I don’t think there is any other free service out there like this for macs.
Thanks for posting!
