Now a full retail version of Camtasia Studio 5 costs $300 but you can have Camtasia for free.
Update: The free Camtasia Studio offer expired on Jan 7.
The only catch is that this offer is available for Camtasia Studio 3. Download the a full working trial copy of Camtasia Studio 3 [removed] and then request a registration key from Techsmith [removed] to convert that demo into a full licensed version.
Update: Download Free SnagIt Screen Capture
Though you may miss some of the new features like Auto Pan and Zoom, Camtasia Studio 3 will still solve most of your screencasting problems - also includes quizzing, titles, PIP and support for recording PPT presentations.
Once you download a free copy of Camtasia Studio 3, it can be upgraded to Camtasia 5 edition at half the standard cost. Thanks Paul.

Wow!
Ever since I read your reviews on Camtasia Studio, I’ve always wanted to try it out.
Thanks for this info, I’m getting it right away.
Have been hearing many teachers enjoy this software, now I can try it too!
Thanks!
Gladys
Thanks for the tip man! Regards, Ming
This “free” version is a very old version,
which simply stalled on my modern PC.
Had to uninstall!
(Intel Dual Core, XP Pro w/latest patches,
2 Gig RAM, etc).
The prog froze when I tried to “Produce” a final version, with the “Recommended Settings”.
I tried *everything* f/their Support FAQ,
(incl. “Reduce Hardware Acceleration” to none, etc).
TechSmith is a good company, but installing this older “free” version in your PC is a loser.
Uninstalled!
can’t “Produce” a final version, anyone knows why??
Thanks!
Noel, you must be running vista. I had the same problem on vista, but worked fine on XP. I read through the docs and the older versions are not supported on vista.
Thanks for the tip AMIT, words great , love both the softwares…
thnxx again
I also counld not “produce” on Vista. Does anyone have a work around?
Thanks! Now I have a chance to use camtasia for my video training and marketing.
