BB FlashBack 2.0 is an easy-to-use screen recording software that lets you make movies of your Windows desktop very quickly. It is also very light and uses its own video capture driver so your system performance won’t be affected during the screen recording phase.
*BB FlashBack would cost $225 per copy but some of you may have the software for free as we couple of licensed copies to giveaway.
While the basic screen recording features in BB FlashBack are pretty much the same as available in other competing titles (like Camtasia Studio), the software really shines on three counts:
1. When you start recording the screen, you get an option to automatically change the screen resolution, set the desktop wallpaper as blank and/or hide all the desktop icons. These little things are such a time-saver and also help reduce the overall size of your desktop video.
2. The developers have applied some good thinking while writing the screencast video editor in BB FlashBack. It’s a linear timeline based editor where every screen is represented by a frame. You can figure out the exact location of the mouse cursor plus the state of your keyboard by looking at any of frames in the timeline.
Now comes the most interesting part - you can re-record just the movements of the cursor without having to record the full movie again. Plus you can adjust the position of the mouse cursor like send it behind a text box or hide momentarily. Can’t think of any other screecasting software that offers this level of control.
3. You can export desktop videos recorded with BB FlashBack to the regular Flash or AVI/WMV formats plus there’s a option for PowerPoint Presentations.
The screencast is exported as a Flash movie that is is automatically embedded into the first slide of a PowerPoint file so you don’t have to do the extra work.
Giveaway: BlueBarry Software has offered five licensed copies of BB FlashBack 2.0 for our readers. In case you like to grab a license, please leave a comment and also mention why you need this software. Here’s a link to download BB FlashBack.

I may be doing a technology-based TV show and this looks like a great tool to try out. At the very least I’d blog about it after trying it out if I can get a license.

This is one of the best screen recording software available, one of the greatest feature of this is that it has the ability to record in flash which I don’t think much screen recorders do. I would probably use this for educational purposes.

Dear Amit,
I’m more than happy to see ur posts on screen recording software.I use Camtasia and Camstudio. However when I record desktop activities using Camtasia, the pointer gets jittery. It seems to be an issue with my video card.I’m still looking for a screen recording software in which we can schedule recording(like system startup,at specified times etc).
Thanks for your post and Have a nice weekend

Wow, this software looks excellent. I was trying out so many different software but most of them were just too “heavy” and so slow loading.
I’m helping friends very often and sometimes it’s good to record a screen cast to show them “how i did it”… so why do I need this software? Because it would make my life so much easier and I would save much time and wouldn’t need to visit friends anymore lol

I have tried the 30 days trial version of this s/w and me like. I like the fact that the videos it creates is compact and crisp. Editing features are nice and convenient as well.
Would be nice to grab my hands on a free licensed copy, I use it currently to document a lot of my stuff for end users and for demos.

Using screencast software has proven a really powerful tool in my classroom, well for those that did not make it to class or when I have been absent.
I would like to think that with a more refined tool than jing / webcature, the outcomes would be even better.

This functionality sounds great! I’m not ready to pony up $225 for it yet, though. I’ve started outlining screencasts for a new blog I’m producing. I’ve got CamtasiaStudio but the file size and pain of re-recording pieces of a screencast because I want to highlight something is getting rough.
I’ve used Mouselight in conjunction with screencast recording, and it seems to help. But if I could reposition the cursor after recording, AND have it set to record at a smaller resolution temporarily, I think I would accelerate the development of my screencasts!
Thanks

This would help and allow me to produce more content. Thanks.

Amit,
thank you for the tip, I haven’t heard about this software before. We are currently using Camtasia Studio 5.1. Sometimes I need to publish SWFs on the web and I don’t like that that it creates huge files (I play with bytes in HTML and then I have to attach 30MB file in SWF - grrr!). From what I’ve read here (point 2) and on bbsoftware website it looks like BB FlashBack is more effective in this aspect. So if you have some licenses left I’d be glad to have one and let you know about results of comparison. Thank you, Roman

I’m a librarian working with teenagers, so I would like to be able to make more snappy screencasts for library-related procedures as well as be able to dazzle my co-workers with more professional-looking materials.

I’d love this software so that I can create movies for training purposes in our company. They never like to do anything until someone just decides they are tired of struggling and figures out a better way for everyone.
We’ll create movies for both internal training and client training and this will really help take the load off of everyone for doing the same stupid things over and over again.
Thanks,
Randy

I am using LogMeIn to help 20 odd newbies to get to know the marvels of computing. But being located in Phuket, Thailand, where Internet connections are ‘iffy’, it is not always possible to see a remote computer’s screen. BB FlashBack will help to solve that issue as I could email solutions recorded with the application.

As the Instructional Technology Specialist at a middle school with a very diverse, at risk student population, a free license for BB Flashback 2, would provide many benefits. Our eighth grade students struggle to pass the required state computer literacy test. BB Flashback’s features will make it possible for me to create tutorials for students to use for review. The ability to create videos that are not massive in size will enable me to embed them on our school website for easy access for our students.
With the high poverty level of my school’s population, many students do not have ready access to technology. In order to increase student access at school we are purchasing low cost flash memory computers. BB Flashback’s optional formats would make screen videos accessible on these machines as well as on the laptops and in the computer labs.
As a community service our school will be open on morning each week and one evening each week for family use. BB Flashback could be used to create parent tutorials covering topics ranging from basic computers to math concepts to safety topics.
Finally, as is common in most at schools with diverse populations, my school has a dedicated faculty that work long hours just to provide engaging lessons for students and the support needed by students and their families. A typical teacher’s day at my school is between 10-12 hours filled with meetings, teaching and documentation. This schedule makes it difficult for the standard face to face staff development to meet the training needs of our staff. BB Flashback would make it possible to provide effective asynchronous training for our busy teachers.
If I am fortunate and receive a free license for BB Flashback, I would be happy to document the benefits and to share this documentation with you and/or BlueBarry Software.
Thank you for this opportunity.

This software would be phenomenal for creating demonstrations of Web 2.0 technologies for the readers of my blog, friends and family.
Instead of simply telling them how good a new Web 2.0 site is, I can can actually demonstrate this fact by walking them through the site.
For this reason alone I would be extremely interested in obtaining a license for this software.
