I am planning to buy the Adobe CS3 Master Suite (Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, etc) but was a bit surprised to see that the Adobe Online software store is not available in India yet though they do have an Asia Pacific region.
It’s an irony that Adobe has large software development centers in Noida and Bangalore but they do not sell their software online here – maybe the market for legitimate design and video software is not large enough in India.
Other giants like Microsoft, Logitech and Creative sell their products in association with eBay India, IndiaTimes or the Rediff website. I searched eBay India for Adobe Creative Suite CS3 software and could only find training DVDs and book – no retail software. Plus eBay is not the best place to buy software.
How do you purchase Adobe software in India? Maybe I’ll have to ask my friends in US to ship CS3 to India. Though Adobe does have a pool of software resellers in India, sending payments via Demand Draft / cheque is too much of an effort plus there’s no way to keep a track of your software purchases.
I did visit some websites of Adobe software dealers in India and most looked like IT service companies who “also sell software.” Not a good experience.
People in US and Canada can just put plug-in their Credit Card numbers and download the CS3 Master collection right away (it’s a 13 GB installer) – Adobe will ship the backup installer CDs later but at least you don’t have to wait for the FedEx guy to start working on the new software. Miss that convenience factor here.
[Amazon India store is still a distant dream.]

Amit, I totally agree with you! I have been looking for an authorized reseller/distributor of adobe products for quite a few months and am looking forward to buying the CS3 suite but searches have come up empty.Even the adobe website does not list any reseller and the adobe india website seems to be a recruitment portal. I guess its really difficult to buy legit softwares in India.My efforts to buy a valid win XP ended up in such a fiasco! I have no intention of doing business with those sidey software resellers who might as well slip you a pirated/cracked version for full money.

Amit, is the situation still the same in India? Last few hours I have been searching for buying Photoshop in India and could not find a single resource even! In the process Google Search brought me to this cool blog of yours. What about buying from Amazon with International Shipping? Do you foresee any additional taxes? Please let me know what you think is the best solution till date for this problem. Thank you.

Apart from the exuberant price Adobe charges it “loyal” cutomers making honest cutomers pay for the R&D for the American customer. For those of us who would like, honestly, to purchase our software and not use pirated versions,it seems that Adobe doesn’t know who represent them in overseas markets. I tried to contact the 3 Dubai dealers listed on Adobe site, on does only traing, thesecond would lift the phone, and the third claimed that the person in charge out of office and promised that he will contact me. This was a week ago and no one has phoned. Until then, I will use one of my friends computer with a fully working pirated version.
