CrashPlan is perhaps the only online backup service that offers both local and cloud based backup. With CrashPlan, you can backup your computer files to your other computers or drives for free without any restrictions.

You can also opt for the Family Plan that offers unlimited online storage for any number of computers that you own. CrashPlan is available for Mac, Windows and Linux machines.

Backup Settings

A: CrashPlan backs up everything that inside your user account folder but you can even specify other files and folders that should be included or excluded from the backup queue.

Restoring Files

B. Restoring lost files with CrashPlan is simple. You can either restore files from the Desktop, or if your computer has crashed, you can use the Guest Restore feature to restore files from another computer where you have backing up the files.

Even if you are using an online backup, it makes sense to have a local destination as well as it will come handy when you need to recover from a computer crash, where you have to restore a lot of files.

Backup to another Computer

C: You can use CrashPlan to backup your computer files online or to another computer on your home network – the latter option is speedy as you don’t send files to another offsite server over the Internet. Just install CrashPlan on all the computers that you want to backup and on the destination computers to which you want to send your backup files.

Alternatively, if you don’t have a home network, you may use CrashPlan to backup your computer to another computer over the Internet – this could be your friend’s computer or your own computer in other location.
