Browser Wars: Firefox in Striking Distance of 20% Market share

According to new numbers released by Net Applications, the market share of Firefox web browser averaged 19.97% for the month of October though it also managed to cross that 20% mark on several occasions.

Since the beginning of this year, IE lost 4.2 points, while Firefox gained 2.99 points, Apple Safari 0.75 points, Opera 0.13 points and Google’s Chrome 0.74 points. Thanks TGDaily.

This is sharp contrast to what Steve predicted when Apple released Safari for Windows.

Is this larger marketshare based on Apple’s not accounting for Chrome, or perhaps that ‘forced’ download of safari that accompanied an iTunes update?

The point here is Chrome has a percentage share [0.74%] as much same as that of Opera[0.75%] has.
I guess Opera fans are disappointd after having a look at these figures :(

Lucky me, my favorite is FF3!

True, I personally don’t think that Safari will ever catch up. Moreover I was very upset that Apple sent through Safari through Itunes update…

Clicking install assuming Apple would never send spyware, bloated my system with Safari.

When I checked the link in W3C website, it showed that Firefox is having 42.6% market share. Now I tend to believe W3C over Net Applications.

Not everyone that installs Firefox on their computer always uses it. I remember some test showed that a lot of times, they installed it, but ended up using IE most of the times.

IE8 (beta 2) is great by the way! You gotta try it if you haven’t already.

@Quikboy W3C statistics measure the usage statistics. They cannot go around and check how many people have “installed” a particular browser on their computers.
