Twitter, which killed off the ability to send and receive tweets via Instant Messaging (AIM, Google Talk) some time ago, is not likely to support it anytime soon.
Instant messaging, being a perfect fit for Twitter’s real time nature, was always a popular option on twitter.
Twitter recommends the use of 3rd party tool Excla.im, in case you need Jabber / Google Talk support.
