YouTube Adds a Video Channel for Citizen Journalists

citizen-journalism Citizen Journalism is hot.

CNN, BBC, MSNBC, Reuters .. almost every mainstream media outlet is now encouraging public (aka ‘citizen journalists’) to send in photos and videos of news events that happen in their locality. Now YouTube has also entered the fray.

They have launched a new CitizenNews channel where they’ll be highlighting news content submitted on to YouTube by citizen journalists.

Olivia has joined as the new News Manager at YouTube and her job is to make YouTube the "go-to destination for citizen news on the web."

Unlike traditional media sties where the probability of getting your citizen news story accepted are fairly low, this is not the case with YouTube. And if they promote your channel, you do get the necessary eyeballs as well.

If you are citizen journalist yourself, use the message feature in YouTube to contact Olivia because the email address she specified (CitizenNews@youtube.com) doesn’t exist.
