Online Photo Editor Picnik Goes Premium

Picnik, the world’s most favorite online image editor, has gone premium.

The basic image manipulation features and some photo effects in Picnik are still available for free but the real impressive stuff like Pencil Sketch, Polaroid frames, Drop Shadow effect and the stylist text fonts require an yearly subscription of ~$25 (same as the cost of Flickr Pro).

Flickr with soon allow members to edit their photos in Picnik but it remains to be seen if any of the premium photo editing features of Picnik will be made available to the Flickr Pro members.

It’s definitely a very bold step for Picnik (promo video) especially when Adobe is all set to release the very good-looking Photoshop Express (video demo) and there are so many free alternatives already that offer Picnick like features.
