If you ever wondered how much online traffic can popular blogs attract if they are live-blogging an Apple event, here’s a clue.

live blogging apple event

Gadget blog Gizmodo gets around 4 million visitors daily but on January 27, the day when Steve Jobs unveiled the much-awaited iPad, Gizmodo’s traffic more than tripled to 13 million.

Sites like Engadget, CNET and the New York Times may also have noticed similar spikes in traffic during the Apple event but we don’t have the actual numbers as, unlike Gawker Media, none of the other sites have made their stats public.

Steve Ballmer too made a major announcement yesterday regarding Windows Phone that, experts say, “could change the current landscape of the smartphone market.”

Gizmodo bloggers were live-blogging this event as well from Barcelona but, unlike the Apple event, Steve’s address made little or no impact to Gizmodo’s traffic. Why? There can be several reasons – maybe people were watching the broadcast live on Microsoft’s site instead of checking gadget blogs, or they were simply not aware of the fact that Microsoft was about to unveil something big or maybe because Jobs wasn’t there.
