As expected, Google Friend Connect is now live at google.com/friendconnect. If you like to join Digital Inspiration community via Friend Connect, please click the Join This Site button below.
If your blog is hosted on Blogger.com, you are ready to go but other websites will have to upload two files on the web server - one for gadget functionality (canvas.html) and the other for security features (rpc_relay.html).

As a user visiting friend connected sites, you can become members of sites and interact with other members who share your interests. You can also invite your friends from orkut, Google Talk, and other social networks to join the community. No need to create a new account for the site: simply use your Google, Yahoo!, AOL, or other OpenID account.
To know more, refer to the Friend Connect support site.

I was about to install this on my blog but didn’t really know what I’d do with it once installed.
I mean, we already have our own comments section. Maybe when they release new widgets, I might give it a go

I was waiting for this, cool feature to share similar interests and thoughts with friends

it would be cool if it integrated with comments sections around the web so you didn’t have to enter info before commenting … and then you could aggregate all your own comments from around the web in your Google Reader and read them over-and-over each morning until you had convinced yourself that you were intelligent and delightful.
thanks for getting it up so fast Amit. fun.

I am the 181st member!! I integrated Friend Connect with my blog but then didn’t know what to do with it. Also I noticed that my site was loading slower than before :(
Probably that is the reason why even you are not having it in sidebar but as a single post?!

That’s interesting - I don’t have to add it to my sidebar. I can add it as a post. Most other widgets don’t let you do that.
I am thinking about adding this in my site.

What are the benefits of this? I have joined the site, but what else can I do with this?
PS:Sorry Amit, couldnt get another pic so put your own here ;)

Odd, I put the files up and can get to them manually but the test fails.

Google has made it quite easy for people on Blogger! It hardly took me 15 min to configure and customize Friend Connect for two of my blogs! Great stuff from Google! Although there aren’t many real Social Gadgets (Only 2 now) that can be added yet (although I know a lot of people would be happy with the Review gadget)…but it won’t be long before we see more ‘facebook’ kind of Gadgets.
