Shoot Better Video for YouTube

If you’re going to shoot video, like a podcast, that you’re going to post to YouTube, you will get better apparent quality by reducing the amount of detail and motion in your video.

Shoot in front of a visually simple scene, and mount your camera on a tripod. Even if you have to shoot outdoors, you can reduce your video information rate by using a camera on a tripod. Even detailed outdoor scenes will look good at low bit rates if they’re stationary relative to your camera.

The video frame size is scaled to no larger than 320×240. The frame rate appears to be between 25 and 30 frames per second, and the video data rate appears to be somewhere around 200 Kilobits (kbps) per second. Audio is reduced to mono and transcoded to a lower bit rate.
