USA Today compares the two most famous visionaries of the blogosphere – GigaOM’s Om and Mike Arrington of TechCrunch. They are old friends as well as competitors (both cover tech and startups).
Employee Numbers: Om Malik has hired five full-time and six part-time employees while TechCrunch has five full-time and 16 part-time employees.
Advertising Revenue: TechCrunch makes $200,000 a month in revenue while GigaOm empire hopes to be profitable by late summer. [Both sites have partnered with Federated Media and Adsense]
Controversies: The companies Arrington covers are also his advertisers and sponsors. He’s invested in a few Internet start-ups. Malik is less controversial than Arrington because he has stricter rules. He does not invest in companies he covers, and is less likely to pass along rumors.
