Free games, Free music, Free Ringtons, Free Credit Reports and Free Myspace Layouts were the most common web searches last week according to Hitwise. And four of the top 20 free searches are “free sex stories,” “free sex,” “free sex videos,” and “free sex pics.”
And people are also hunting the web for “free money” and “free cash” but not a single search for “free lunch”.
“Freeness” is seasonal; searches spike during the holiday season, surpassing 4.2% of all internet searches as holiday shoppers are lured by “free shipping” offers. Summers show an equivalent rise in free queries, as boredom and more leisure time drive interest in “free games,” “free chat,” “free movies” and of course “free myspace layouts.” Link
I have seen that if you add the word “free” to your search query, the value of CPC ads diminishes by a big factor – Makes sense because if someone is looking for a free object, he is no mood to buy so why should an advertiser waste his ad money on the search.
