Sony Pictures has put up an interesting promo for their upcoming film – 2012. Instead of promoting the movie’s official site in the trailer, they just show a message saying "Google Search: 2012".
This is obviously a good idea because their audience need not have to remember any complex web addresses but the only problem is that the official site of movie 2012 doesn’t figure anywhere in the top 10 Google results.
Anyway, this film is expected to hit movie theatres in July next year so the web team at Sony Pictures still has plenty to time to work on their SEO / link building / Google Bomb campaign. Thanks Russell.

They don’t even need the official website to be listed in the top of the result. Any information provided by any website comes in the result promotes the movie. It’s a great idea to promote anything on the web.

Google gets free advertising anyway: Almost everyone refers for someone to just “Google it”. Kinda sad really, that the internet is basically a synonym for Google nowadays.
