MTV has tied up with Google India to launch the online version of their hugely popular Roadies reality TV show on Orkut. MTV and Google are also aggressively marketing this show via the AdSense network. Here’s a screen grab:

What may surprise you a bit is the language (“ab phategi”) used in these Google Ads.
I asked my Twitter friends what they think of the word “phategi” and all seem to agree that this term is a proper slang in Hindi.

Am not sure how the Adwords Quality Team approved this Orkut ad though it will definitely appeal the youth who flock Orkut in large numbers.

I dont think its a good word to be used
Phategi means Tearing off but it is use for some other sense here

Its been approved probably because, the slang is in hindi and not English. I’ve seen people posting screenshots on forums of adsense ads containing the choicest of hindi abuses – the key poit is that the word is a slang in hindi and not english

People actually reply when you ask a Q on Twitter? :)

It is a common word used among youngsters in different contexts. Yeah, you wont use such word in front of parents.
This word is still decent as compared to juicy words one get to hear on the actual show MTV Roadies.
Regarding relation with google adwords stuff, I guess its ok :)

You had highlighted the right thing, I too was amazed last day when first saw this ad but though perhaps they want Indians to be this much ‘advance’, shame for the foul language : (

Its a slang, the literal meaning is tear away but its used as a slang to mean screwed up or used to describe a do or die situation
