My Favorite Blogs & Websites of 2008

Following are the top 20 websites / blogs that I pay most attention to as per FeedDemon. The snapshot on the left was captured in June (for comparison) while the one on right reflects my current reading habits.

popular websites of 2008

I was subscribed to some 1168 feeds in June but that number has shrunk to less than 650 today and I therefore have more time to spend per feed. Another big surprise is Hacker News - it has climbed to #2 position from nowhere while old favorite Techmeme has dropped to #8.

You can find links to all the above sites through this list of recommended websites.

great reading! 10 of your listed web also in my feed.

You should publish an OPML of your feeds

A must-check list of tech websites.
Thanks for sharing Amit.

Thanks for mentioning your favorite list of websites.

What an honor to have my lifestream in there - thank you!

Steve - Thanks for sharing such useful stuff in your lifestream.

Thanks Amit! We think you are awesome too :) Keep up the great work in the coming year.

Hacker News saw a similar rise in my “most attention” list, too (it’s also at #2).

BTW, I second the request for an OPML of your favorite feeds (which, come to think of it, sounds like a good feature to add to FeedDemon).

When the developer of your RSS reader comments on your favorite feeds post, that’s pretty sweet :)

Great list. You have given a new year gift with the series of informative posts. I particularly liked the last post in which you told us a host of tools and programs for novices.

Nick - OPML for favorite feeds is a good idea but my top request for FeedDemon 2.9 (or 2.8) is about exporting “popular topics” as an HTML web page.

Marshall - It feels good.

I don’t get why Slashdot doesn’t include a Microsoft section.

@Amit: The next FeedDemon 2.8 build will enable exporting your “Top N” feeds, so you can have an OPML of just the feeds you pay the most attention to.

As far as exporting “Popular Topics” goes, what format would you want? Would you want an HTML replica of that report, or an RSS feed of the most popular items?

Nick - I would prefer a HTML web page of the Popular Topics report. It would be enable me (and other fans of FeedDemon) publish a TechMeme style cluster report of stuff that’s popular across my favorite blogs. Thanks for considering.

Thanks a lot of this wonderful collection of blogs…

Wishing you and all your readers a very happy new year.
