Google has enabled language translation in Gmail meaning you can now translate emails written in foreign languages to a language you can read.
The translation happens inline so you don’t have to leave the current message view. And there’s a print option as well so you can translate and simultaneously print the translated version.
Gmail will try to auto-detect the language of your email message but you can also change the default language pair from the drop-down just above the message body. And to translate the entire thread, click the globe icon on the right side of the conversation.
To enable translation in your copy of Gmail, open the Labs tab and enable the "Message Translation" gadget.

Don’t know how many other languages messages Gmail users receive from their friends ands relatives, but spam messages are coming from other laguages even though Gmail blocks spam. This feature will definitely help to read the sapm messages from other languages.

As a translator, I think that machine translation (or automatic translation) is still too far from being a useful tool. Business people will continue to use real people to translate emails that are important to them. For them I recommend using services such as OneHourTranslation.com that aggregate many translators and deliver fast results. It’s not as fast as the gmail translation feature but it’s safer and ensures smooth communication.

this is one cool addition. From now on at least I will be able to know what those Russian spammers are writing in their spam mails ;)
