You can now find detailed driving directions for India roads through the Google Maps website.
The more-handy print version of Google Maps splits the whole route into smaller blocks that are zoomed-in for easy viewing and you can further customize the map area visible inside these individual blocks. Do remember this when you plan your next road trip in India.

i tried this out and its quite inefficient, routes generated use major roads only…using this service for interciy travel is fine but not for intra city…

yahoo maps in india is any time better than google.

As you said it generates inefficient route. But there is option to drag routes to change it. Try it out. Even that is is buggy in some cases as it generates circular routes.
Also some routes are not possible as some turning as one way which is not taken care by Google maps.
Anyway it’s good step in right direction. They’ll fix these issues in future.

Suppose that if i want to go from one state to another state via national highway then in that case how to generate route on google maps to reach exactly to my particular destination.
