At exactly 9:25 PM PST today, the download counter at WordPress touched the 3 million mark.
That means WordPress 2.6 self-hosted software has been downloaded more than 3 million times from wordpress.org.
If you are new here, do check our popular guide on things to do after installing WordPress.
I was lucky enough to watch this live when the ticker moved from 2,999,992 to that magical 3,000,002 mark. Congrats Matt.

The work at Wordpress is impressive, no wonder that it crosses 3 million. Kudos to the great makers

The amazing thing is that the number should be significantly higher, as I download the new release once, then use that one file to upgrade all 20 blogs I administer.

I’m a proud WorPress user and recommend it to my clients whenever they ask which blogging tool to use. This is wonderful ammunition:
“Join me and 3 million other people in using WordPress for your blog.”
I really don’t have to say anything more than that.
Congratulations!
