What Makes a Perfect Blog That Attracts Readers

A giant blogroll, no About Us page, irrelevant tag cloud, cluttered social bookmarking icons.. all these things make your blog look less professional. Jeff Attwood has some good suggestions:

Excessive Advertisements - Advertising is a fact of life. People need to feed their starving children. But is it really necessary to make your blog look like Times Square? Does every square inch of whitespace have to be filled with paid links, Google AdSense, and ad banners?

Sorry I Haven’t Written in a While - If you haven’t posted anything new to your blog in a while, don’t waste our time with apologies. Just write! The best apology is new and improved content. Maybe with a wee bit more consistency this time, though.

No Information on the Author - Every time a reader encounters a blog with no name in the byline, no background on the author, and no simple way to click through to find out anything about the author, it strains credulity to the breaking point. It devalues not only the author’s writing, but the credibility of blogging in general.
