Can I have two seconds of your time - please take this poll.
Technology users can be divided into four groups according to Eric Sink (thanks Dare):
a. Early Adopters are risk takers who actually like to try new things.
b. Pragmatists willing to use new tech, if it’s the only way to get their problem solved.
c. Conservatives dislike new technology and try to avoid it.
d. Laggards pride themselves on the fact that they are the last to try anything new
The above poll is simple an attempt to find about the different groups that follow this blog. I consider myself somewhere between an Early Adopter and Pragmatist.

I agree with you; I too consider myself between an Early Adopter and a Pragmatist.
I like to try out new stuff and services but only to keep up with what’s available, what’s cutting-edge and what the future holds.
Other than that I usually stick to something tried and tested unless there is absolutely no other alternative.
The only problem with a poll like this is that it assumes that people know what type of technology user they are versus what type they ‘think’ they are…
Also, if you are between an Early Adopter and a Pragmatist, then which choice will you make on the poll?
Would love to see the results!.
The use of Laggard and Conservative as descriptors for the last two catagories in your survey may have adversly effected the outcome. Even if I was the last to try anything,I doubt I’d admit it if Laggard was the only choice.
In my case, I was at the head of the pack back in the late 60’s, the 70′, 80’s and 90’s when I ran an communications firm. We used the “latest tech” as an attraction for new clients and as a way of holding on to our customers.
Now that I’m retired to the country, I’m get by with a 6 year old Sony Vaio and a new HP desk top. DSL just got here a year ago, and it’s great.
Sattelite and HDTV help pass the time. And everything is WANed together. Ain’t life great?

It’s easy to make use of new technology, but generally requires a bit of a learning curve initially, but as long as it’s beneficial…
Somewhere in between 1 and 2.
Not the first one in the ‘technological battle field’ and not the average one, even though I am very proud when I’ve got some gadgets which I know that are still very rare around the world.
