I own two domains (digitalinspiration.com, labnol.org) and thought of expanding the portfolio after news surfaced that GoDaddy was accepting applications for .me web domains. As the flood gates opened, I tried acquiring some "fairly obvious" domain names like call.me, mail.me, contact.me but as one would expect, none of them were available.

As the flood gates opened, I tried acquiring some "fairly obvious" domain names like call.me, mail.me, contact.me but as one would expect, none of them were available.

Just when I was about to conclude this "unsuccessful quest," a search revealed that ping.me was available with GoDaddy. That was an Aha! moment – I quickly grabbed that domain, made the payment via PayPal and retired to bed pretty excited.

Maybe I would use ping.me to build a blog ping service on the lines of Ping-O-Matic or maybe something else but then this morning, the following email dashed all hopes.

Lot of people have faced that problem including me. Lot of bloggers are posting about this problem with .me after all were pretty excited about getting their favorite domains.

That was a common problem.

Latter I found out that problem was with only Godaddy. If you have had tried with Netfirms or Namecheap, it would have been sucessful.

I tried several celebrity name as .me is all about personal website. I was luck to get jenniferlopez.me

I also faced the same problem… site took lots of time to search the domain, i guess there might be a huge traffic… i tried for domain like techme.me, gift.me, credit.me, hug.me, tweet.me ….all were giving the same error message ;( and funny part of it is that many people on twitter said that they all were able to register same domain called aweso.me ….!!

Same thing happened with me. The first one I submitted went through fine. Then I submitted another one and they said they went through. All was fine, until I got that email.

This is a major blow to godaddy’s trustworthiness. I was sooooo disappointed. I had twit.me and then it was gone. I did manage to get some later in the day that people had overlooked, like bizzy, collector, deliver2, flipover and a lot of names like my own name, sherman.me.

So, all was not lost. I got 42 total. Most of which will probably be useless. But I have sold one domain in the past for $125K, so you never know. :-)

Happens with me when I tried to register “India.me”

Lol, there are some “reserved” category of domains and some whcih have been taken under the sunrise periods.

GoDaddy has got a very negative reputation in the domain registrations are as their internal employees are before hand permitted to participate in the marketplace which is unlawful and resented by many online services providers.

India.me was not a premium domain(atleast it wasn’t posted as a premium domain here). Also, godaddy was showing tthat India.me was available….Gosh, I must’ve taken that :(
