Twitter provides an excellent search engine but the problem is that Twitter Search is pretty useless for ego surfing – that’s because all hyperlinks on Twitter are in the form of short URLs so you’ll never know if that TinyURL link is pointing to you or someone else’s blog.

There’s however an excellent third-party alternative in the form of TweetBeep that can help you here – this tool regularly checks for mentions of your website on twitter even if the links have been shortened using TinyURL, Snurl or other URL shortening services.

As soon as someone publishes a tweet that refers to any of your blog pages, TweetBeep will send you an email alert as in the screenshot above.
