Yahoo’s combined share in this pie of top 20 websites is higher than that of Google.

And if these numbers are any indication, here’s how the various web email sites now rank in terms of popularity: (a) Yahoo! Mail (b) Windows Live Hotmail (c) Gmail (d) AOL.

Interesting! Seems like Yahoo is not as obsolete as technical user might think. In fact, Microsoft seems to be getting search and mail crowd too.

But is there any indication from INDIA alone, i mean which are the top 20 sites seen from India.
Amzaed to know yahoo is ahead of Gmail.

We can’t actually rank web email sites by these numbers. Gmail provides hosted email service for thousands of companies, universities and other sites. Millions of people use these services. But they are not counted as gmail popularity as these people never directly login at mail.google.com.

Wow… Yahoo is still ahead of google in terms of traffic…
I used to use Yahoo! just for emailing..

Yahoo’s search results sucks compared to google…

@Madhukar Reddy

You are absolutely right.May be that gave Yahoo more numbers than Gmail.

Yeah, if gmail was factored into that, it would be a completely different story. It seems like nowadays, google is the ONLY search engine people use anymore. I saw a person in the library using AltaVista, and I just kind of laughed, old school. ha

@CoolProducts

What’s so funny? Altavista = Yahoo.

Altavista = OVERTURE and then OVERTURE has been bought by Yahoo. Yahoo = 3.88% PLUS partner sites.

Google is not as good as people always say. Try to compare search results… Number #1 is Live.com for me. Fast, looks nice and excellent results for what I’m searching for.

4% (Yahoo) compared to Google (6%) ain’t much…

Well actually I am surprised to see yahoo mail being in front of gmail in terms of traffic. There are problems with yahoo mails lately and I have seen negatve comments posted all over theweb with gloomy predictions about this but statictics never lie.

Actually, saying that “Yahoo’s combined share in this pie of top 20 websites is higher than that of Google.” is kinda false. If you add up the percentages then sure, yahoo kicks google’s ass. Unfortunately, though, percentages don’t work that way: it’s very likely that, for instance, 80% of people who go to mail.yahoo.com also visit yahoo.com, giving it a 3.88% share.

It is really an eye opener for those who believe that Google has crushed Yahoo. There is no doubt that Google leads as far as Search Engine is concerned but when it comes to overall internet presence, Yahoo is a force to reckon with!
