Tata Sky become first DTH service to provide DVR

Faced with increased competition from Airtel Digital TV and Big TV, Tata Sky has launched a new service Tata Sky+, which uses the much awaited personal video recorder (PVR) technology.

PVR allows viewers to Pause TV, Rewind and even Record one channel while watching another channel. The recording can be done maximum for 45 minutes which is done on an in built Hard Disk.

The set top box for Tata Sky+ would be different from existing one and priced at Rs.8999 with a Rs.50 per month usage fee.

The new service is aimed at premium customers and have a sleek look to it with a black and red colour combination (thankfully its not red and white, the object of controversy during the recent Airtel TV-Big TV ad campaigns).

Hi Amit, I would like to point a mistake you have made in this post. You have written that “recording can be done maximum for 45 minutes which is done on an in built Hard Disk” But actually it is 45 hours (given in official site).
You are doing a great job

pls confirm if it would be possible to take out the recording thus made on the hard disk of this box, to a PC or laptop for recording on a CD/DVD etc.

my computer has windows xp home with media centre edition which is basically a programme recorder also. pls tell me if it is possible to connect this to the tatasky set top box to view/record the video on the computer hard disk. would appreciate if you advise.
