IPTV in India from Reliance and Microsoft
Reliance (Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group) will launch IPTV for Indian consumers in March 2008.
Reliance has licensed Microsoft Mediaroom software that will allow customers to do more with their Television sets than just watch programs.
You can share your media at one place (like video clips, MP3 songs, personal photos), record TV programs, connect TV to your PC and more.
Microsoft Mediaroom can display up to 16 separate video channels on one screen in a 4×4 grid. The set-top box has a hard-drive to record TV programs.
No word on the pricing of Reliance IPTV yet but it’s expected to launch in the metros and bigger cities first. [via MSFT PR]

I doubt whether there would be substantial bandwidth and userbase for this particular venture. If YES, I guess India’s gonna out run most developed nations. I personally do not have time to sit infront of the telly. Hope Anil isn’t making a mistake!! Good luck Anil for your partnership with Microsoft for offering IP TV services in India….!! Mmmmmm…..I still am not able to figure out who will be the target audience for this particular telly? Any comments in this regard?
