Pizza Hut, the world’s largest pizza chain is changing its name to ‘Pasta Hut’ in 30 select outlets of UK inorder to promote healthy foods, attract new customers and move upmarket.
The name change began on April Fool’s day, when Pizza Hut sent emails to customers about the name change and the company’s Dallas headquarters changed its exterior logo to Pasta Hut.
Around 700 Pizza Hut outlets in UK are being refurbished to Pasta Hut and will be unwrapped in 2009 and 2010. Although re-naming is for a trial period only and customers can offer their thoughts on the new-look restaurants at Pastahut.co.uk.
The name change may gain acceptance in US, UK and other European countries, as people there are more used to pasta concept than India. In India, it would still require a lot of doing before people become used to going out and eat pasta.
