Frying fortune from a mistake

Omelette ShopLonely Planet, considered to be the Bible for tourists unexpectedly made a mistake by including a small shop selling meat, rice and lentils as “Omelette Shop” in the city of Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

The owner, Ramkishan Gawlani a.k.a. “Omelette Man” then switched to making omelettes. Today he consumes around 1,000 egss every day for making omelettes. His clientele includes domestic and foreign tourists and is famous specially among backpackers, earning rath of fellow competitors, who claim to have better recipes.

Piece of advice - Add ‘Turmeric’ to your omelette to ward away the smell of egg.

Ideally, guidebooks try to unobtrusively nudge tourists towards the authentic sights and pleasures of a destination. In reality they have the power to transform almost anything they touch, especially in places popular with backpackers.
