After running a pilot project in Hyderabad for some six months, Google India has now introduced phone search in Delhi.
So if you are based in the NCR region, you can call Google’s toll-free number from any landline or mobile phone and perform a search using your voice.
Google will either read out the contact details for you over the phone or you can have them as an SMS message and that is a free service as well.
Google Phone Search - This service is currently available in English, Hindi and Telugu. Give it a shot and do share your first experience in the comments.
The phone number is 1-800-41-999-999 - same as Hyderabad - and should work with any phone with a Delhi number or of adjoining cities like Gurgoan, Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, etc.

u shud probably mention that it is not “exactly” voice search, as basically a human will pick up the phone, search for the things that you want, and then relay back the answers to you…

Hey Amit, Is this the first phone search service in the country?

@Chetan: No, it’s not. JustDial has had this service for quite some time now but I think their number is not toll-free like Google’s.

Why the hell anybody will use such services? There so many existing players offering this call center type operation.

I tried this service. Quite a few times it went to the ‘human’ conection without going thru the IVR. In IVR response, it refused to recognize ‘South Indian restaurants’. The only thing it recogizes is ‘Chinese restaurants’. When I asked for Guragaon, it sent me a list of 3 Chinese restaurants in Delhi. I am not very impressed. Guess they need to work on it much more. The telecalling service was better. Let’s see how it develops.
