Danish Newspaper That Printed Muhammad Cartoons Puts Mahatma Gandhi In Their Ads

denmark newspaper

Uncle Gray, an advertising agency based in Denmark, has created a series of print ads featuring famous personalities like Mohandas Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Dalai Lama.

The ads are actually designed to promote Morgenavisen (jp.dk) – the same newspaper that had earlier sparked world-wide protests after it printed those controversial cartoons of Muslim prophet Muhammad.

The tagline of this latest advertising campaign says - "Life is easier, if you don’t speak up" and probably suggests what these great political mind would have done had they not taken up leadership roles.

These ads depict Dalai Lama skiing in Himalayas, Nelson Mandela surfing on a beach while Mahatma Gandhi is shown having beer and cooking meat on a barbeque grill. Looks like another controversy is waiting to happen again.

Looks like this paper will only thrive by hurting other people’s sentiments under the garb of “freedom of expression”.

Gandhiji holding bottled jal-jeera while prepearing soya sausages. Why should anybody be troubled with that.

It’s in bad taste. The agency should respect the feelings of the people.

@Subhash
Have you seen beer bottle shaped ‘jal-jeera’ and ’soya - sausages’ made in BBQ style?

Have you ever tried drinking 5 jal-jeera bottles [4 empty on the ground], whereas one can have 5 beers!

This AD is surely an idea of a junk mind!

This is disgusting….

It doesn’t bother me that he looks like an Ethiopian long distance runner in the ad…yes, a bit disappointing that the man doesn’t even remotely look like Ben Kingsley. What really bothers me is that he is depicted wearing a rubber ki chappal and not a Khadau. It’s an insult to the Mahatma who also happens to be father of the nation.

Indians should stop being ‘offended’ at the drop of a hat.

I would say a “PATHETIC PUBLICITY STUNT” by Danish News Agency. Shame on those who contributed in hurting the sentiments of Indians.

I can only ask GOD to give some brain to the people involved.

I got one more Ad on Mahatma Gandhi by SUBWAY –

its horrible and not accepted at any cost. as we know gandhiji as anti-liqueur and vegetarian. who ever see this ad should immediately mail those silly chaps to show our concern and pressurize them call back their sick ad.

Fairly insensitive. But then there are agencies that believe that stirring strong emotions can be good for the brand they are promoting. Quite a debatable proposition, especially when there is no plan to channelize the emotions in a positive way. Recall the Benetton ads?

Oppose this sadist behaviour of Danish agency at any cost.
Let me pray to the creator to give a good thinking brain to those foolish people.

I thinks the ads are fine. The tagline is “Life is easier, if you don’t speak up” so its basically saying that we need to speak up otherwise we’ll all end up doing ordinary things not extraordinary things that these leaders have done

This ad is not supposed to hurt minds, all the contrary. Well, let’s say, yes they are a bit insulting but to those who go skiing, surfing and barbequeing. Personally, concerning the advertising message, I would have prefered seeing Mahatma Gandhi acting in a wealthy leisure sports practice. I think the barbeque, beers and sausages are incongruous compared to surfing and skiing.

The music in the Telecom Italia video is from Lisa Gerrard - “Sacrifice”

First of all let us say that we am deeply sorry if we have offended you and some people of your country.
In fact the quite opposite was our meaning.
Jylland-Posten took three of our biggest heroes and made a campaign about them. I think it is very important for you to read (and think about) the copy “Life is easier, if you don’t speak up”.
We wanted to honour the men that stood up and changed the world instead of just being like the rest of us…surfing, skiing, barbequeing and so on.
The campaign has been possitive mentioned in huge newspapers like New York Times, Herald Tribune and also in websites like the ones from India for example India Uncut.
I hope you will take the time to read what this clever man from India Uncut is writing:

In other words, many people from your country understands the message but are afraid that some other people from your country won’t. So if you want to help to prevent people from misunderstanding the message, we would be thankful.

For your information I can tell you, that the campaign is not running anymore. But unfortunatly I do not have the power to stop the mecanisms of the internet. If people want to pass on the campaign I have no way to stop them.

Thank you for speaking up. Now we have done the same. It seems like the campaign actually makes people debate.

No respect to other people feeling and culture! If this is the free speech that the west been talking about then I don’t want it.

Shame!! insulting a man who fight against Alcohol and sacrificed his life for non-violence. Use the weapon that used by Muslims when they insult their Prophet: “boycott the Danish products and discunnect the diplomatic connections “.

Common you cannot insult national figures in the name of advertising.
