New Launch – Tata Winger and Tata Magic from Tata Motors
Riding high on its success of mini-truck Ace, Tata Motors launched Magic and Winger to target market segment ranging from rural interiors to high-end luxury mass transportation. The announcement can be seen as a pre-cursor to the launch of much awaited Rs.1 lakh passenger car.

The new launches are done in a process to get a substantial market share in MUV segment and also target the three-wheeler passenger vehicle market. It could also help Tata in improving its market share in the light passenger vehicle segment which has been registering a decline recently.
Tata Magic is aimed at the rural market and built on similar platform to ‘Ace’. It has a 16 hp 700 cc engine and a flexible seating capacity of 4 to 7 passengers with an ex-showroom price of Rs. 2.60 lakhs.
Tata Winger is powered by old Sumo’s 2-litre engine and would be India’s only maxi-van (comfort of a car and space of a mini-bus) with capacity of 9 to13 passengers. It is priced at Rs.4.70 lakhs and aimed at intra and inter-city transportation for use by as staff vehicles, hotel and airport transfers, tourist usage, ambulance, and school van.
It remains to be seen how well the customers lap up to these products, but looking at experiences of Indica, Sumo and Ace, there is no reason to believe otherwise.
