Taj Hotels launches new brand ‘The Gateway’ to differentiate offering

Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, has introduced third brand in its hotel portfolio which would cater to upscale customers around the country. 16 existing Taj hotels having 100-150 rooms each are brought under ‘The Gateway’ brand and 10 new hotels have been signed up.

With this, all 70 hotels under Indian Hotels are under 3 different brands. The ‘Taj’ brand would have all luxury hotels while ‘Ginger’ would include all economy and budget hotels. IN between these 2 brands in ‘Gateway’ which will be upscale and also include all hotels which were previously under ‘Residency’ brand.

All new airport hotels at Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore would be brought under Gateway brand.

The probable reason for Taj Hotels choosing the name ‘Gateway’ might be that the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai is situated just opposite the Gateway of India, and the group might want to take advantage of its landmark advantage.

With this brand differentiation, Taj Hotels has followed a global practice and also created different offerings like other Indian hospitality players - ITC (Luxury Collection, Welcomgroup Sheraton, Welcomhotel, Fortune and WelcomHeritage) and Oberoi (Business, Leisure, Vilas, Trident).
