To further supplement its entertainment offering, Anil Ambani’s Reliance Entertainment has formed an equal JV with Great Wheel Corporation, the creators of world fame London Eye. GWC is currently also developing projects in Beijing, Singapore, Orlando, Berlin and Dubai.
R-ADAG plans to big such wheels in 5 Indian cities starting with Delhi and Mumbai. Most probably Reliance Entertainment would procure the land in prime locations in each city and GWC will develop and operate the wheels and observation platforms.
Reliance Entertainment has aptly named the project as “The BIG Wheel” and plans to build wheels bigger than the London Eye with 180 metres diameter, 30 cabins accommodating 1000 people per revolution.
The project may indeed find takers in India considering its unique offering and USP of seeing the snapshot of the whole city from above with live description.
But the key concern would remain in finding the appropriate location for the wheel as there has to be certain considerations to be met like it should be close to a tourist location, have lots of vacant area around and situated in central part of city. Also, its financial feasibility is doubted since development of each wheel excluding the land cost would cost Rs.500 crores. via
