Gurgaon becoming biggest healthcare destination

GurgaonAfter Dr. Trehan’s medicity and Apollo Tyre’s Artemis Health Sciences, Ranbaxy owned Fortis Healthcare is building a 7-star medicity with an investment of Rs.800 crore in Gurgaon.

The medicity would have 950 beds and will be called Fortis International Institute of Medical Sciences (FIIMS). It would be a multi-speciality hospital with food courts and a theatre facility.

Currently, Fortis has 12 hospitals concentrated in 7 north Indian states. In next 4 years, it would invest Rs.1000 crore to build 28 more hospitals in northern and southern India.

Ironically, the Fortis Medicity is coming up juts two kilometers from location of Dr. Trehan’s medicity. Recently, these two had a legal spat over control of Escorts Heart Institute which ultimately resulted in Dr. Trehan joining Apollo Hospitals.

But amidst all this, the biggest gainer seems to be Gurgaon as it has managed to attract large scale investments in healthcare sector in the city.  Plus its proximity to Delhi Airport makes for an added advantage as it can exploit the medical tourism boom.
