Counted among India’s largest privately owned hotel company, Bharat Hotels has changed its brand name from the ‘Grand’ to ‘the Lalit’, reflecting the name of its late founder Mr. Lalit Suri coupled with the end of its franchise arrangement with ‘The Intercontinental’.
The group owns 7 operational and 10 under-developed hotels and all hotels would be prefixed with the brand ‘the Lalit’ apart from Mumbai and Goa hotels where the arrangement with Intercontinental is for further 18 months.
Off late many hotel chains have terminated their franchise arrangements with foreign probably due to maturing nature of the Indian hospitality industry and also due to the cash crunch being faced by global majors.
The new identity of the Lalit Suri hospitality group seems to be very much inspired by another luxury Indian hotel chain, the Leela Group. Even the nature of business is similar with both companies having similar number of hotels operating and under development. The website even bears resemblance in name thelalit.com vs theleela.com
