In a bid to become among the largest multiplex operator in India, DT Cinemas, owned by DLF Ltd, would build 500 screens in 100 multiplexes over next 2 years with an investment of Rs.1500 crore.
Once the screens are built, the company may float an IPO to join the list of other listed multiplex players like PVR, Adlabs and Pyramid Saimira.
The Indian cinema exhibition space is expected to record Rs.10,200 crore in revenues in next 3 years of which multiplex would have more than 10% share.
The multiplex expansion also draws synergies DLF’s retail plans as most of them would be coming up in 130 malls being built by DLF. DT Cinemas is also unveiling a premium multiplex theater model called DT Premier something akin to Adlabs Ebony and Wave Cinemas Platinum Lounge.
For expansion, DT Cinemas may also consider buying a local multiplex chain. Earlier it was also reported to be in talks with Warner Brothers and Sony for the multiplex venture. via
