BSNL rebrands its products under a single name

BSNLIndia’s biggest telecom company, Government owned BSNL is going in for a uniform brand much like other telecom brands such as Airtel and Tata Indicom.

This would mean that seven services of BSNL catering to 5 crore subscribers nationally would be changed. Also the colour of its corporate logo would change from blue to black.

List of its existing and new brands (w.e.f. from October 1) are:
DataOne                  –  BSNL Broadband
VSAT Broadband   –  BSNL VSAT
CellOne                    –  BSNL Mobile Postpaid
Excel                        –  BSNL Mobile Prepaid
bfone                        –  BSNL Landline
Sancharnet              –  BSNL Internet
Tarang CDMA         –  BSNL WLL

A single brand would make it easier for brand recall among consumer minds and create a uniform identity.

The move may also help BSNL in promoting only a single brand rather than creating a separate marketing strategy for individual brands.

Also it would mean that it could shift the focus from non famous brands such as Excel and DataOne is rural areas.

In coming days, we may expect to see a series of advertisements highlighting the BSNL brand change just as in case of UTI-Axis Bank and Hutch-Vodafone.

Its a good thing that it plans to bring all the seven entities under one brand name. It will help it be identified better across the nation.
