After the Fortis-DLF deal, another real estate player Ansal Properties & Infrastructure Ltd has struck a deal to build a 52 acre mediicity in Lucknow with Fortis with an investment of Rs.5 billion.
The project will include an 800-bed hospital, medical, dental and nursing colleges. Fortis plans to establish 10 large-scale medicities by 2017.
After Gurgaon, this is Fortis’ second medicity project. It is also planning a medicity in Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Punjab. Ansal and Fortis may also partner for a medicity in Ansal’s township in Greater Noida.
Ansal will not charge Fortis any license fee for operating in its township. However the medial education would be done through a company other than the listed Fortis Healthcare as Medical Council of India does not permit education for commercial purposes.
Given India’s healthcare boom, owing to easier accesses of medical insurance, rising prosperity and overseas patients, the deal may work out well to fulfill demand for high-quality healthcare.
