Adlabs raps up Rave, aims to capture every Indian eyeball

When it comes to Reliance, whether Mukesh or Anil, don’t expect them to be out of news for long. The burgeoning space of cinema exhibition through multiplex in malls spanning the length and breadth of the country, has caught the attention of many multiplex owners, who are in the process of building new properties, acquiring existing single screen theatre to ramp them to high standards.
“Rave” multiplex owned by Dainik Jagran and Kothari group has been taken over by Adlabs as on 2nd May, 2007. The group has presently 1 operational multiplex in Kanpur and is in process of setting up more screens in the high potential region of UP, NCR and Punjab.
Adlabs (previously owned by Manmohan Shetty, pioneer in Indian cinema for film processing), owned by Reliance ADAG group plans to foray into every Indian city. Nothing for shock value, as this is what expected from a Reliance company. It also has plans to acquire single screen theatres and build malls in collaboration. Also, on the anvil are distribution rights of Hollywood and Bollywood movies, movie production. It has signed deal with Hrithik Roshan and John Abraham for a sum unheard preciously in Indian cinema industry.
Adlabs has also forayed into television production with the acquisition of Synergy Communications, a Siddhartha Basu company (famous for producing KBC and Jhalak Dikhla Ja). It is launching Reliance Blue-Magic, its DTH venture to take on Dish TV, Tata Sky and to-be-launched DTH service of Sun TV.
Adlabs gain from the synergies it has with Reliance Communications, which is the telecom arm of ADAG, which provides it with the distribution channels, technology and cross marketing for its huge subscriber base. The IPTV launch is another example of close synergy.
Citing previous examples of Reliance scale of operations, things cannot be far behind from it becoming top player in entertainment industry.
