Clean Chewing Gum Stains from Clothing, Carpet or Shoes

VideoJug: Removal of chewing gum from clothes is easy if you act fast. Letting the gum dry makes it much harder to get out later. Pull off as much as you can with your fingers.

Once the gum has hardened, try to scrape it off with a knife. You should be able to remove all of the gum in this way from tough fabrics like denim.

eHow: To remove chewing gum from carpet or fabric, put paper towels on top of the gum and heat with an iron set on low to medium heat. The gum will melt and soak into the paper towel. Move to a fresh area on the paper towel until the majority of the gum is gone.

Wrigley’s: For washable clothes, you might first try scraping off any excess gum with a dull knife and then rubbing the area with ice until the remaining gum rolls off into a ball. Another method is to seal the dry garment in a plastic bag and place it in your freezer. After the garment is frozen, remove and gently scrape off the gum with a dull knife.
