The still image camera of your BlackBerry Curve will soon transform itself into a proper video camera thanks to new BlackBerry 4.3 update that’s due very soon.
That means if you have own a BlackBerry 8300 Curve, you’ll be able to capture video clips with your BlackBerry phone in addition to still images.
Video recording feature are probably integrated in the latest BlackBerry Curve models like the BlackBerry 8320. Thanks CrackBerry.

RIM has enjoyed success in the business sector with their push email services, security, and network management features, which the competition will have a harder time playing catch up with than RIM should be able to make adjustments on the consumer side of the market.
It’s true that RIM has grown their market share in North America, probably due in part to the growth in the smartphone arena, which the average user has now adopted thereby stealing sales away from cell phones. I did just that for my wife and two kids, buying 3 Pearls instead of cell phones. However, RIM had better not rest on their past successes, as things are heating up on the consumer side in a big way.
I hope that RIM has their marketing people reading some of these blogs on the net and using focus groups, otherwise they will find themselves in the same position down the road as Palm is today. Palm once enjoyed a dominant position in the market, which is now struggling to survive.
They need to address the shortcomings in their current consumer directed products like:
1) lack of video support (Adobe Flash) for sites like YouTube and a
2) lack of a camcorder feature (future OS system support as mentioned above) and a
3) need for a more updated, more robust browser (”desktop-class” as Apple touts in their iPhone 3G) that offers support for HTML and 3G speeds (like perhaps Opera 9.5 beta) and a
4) lack of support for viewing PDF and Office documents (which is reportedly already in the v4.5 OS release…..I have a Curve 8320 from T-Mobile (purchased in June 2008) that only has OS v4.2.2 which T-Mobile’s BlackBerry tech support claims is the latest version they are currently offering/supporting) and last but not least the
5) need for HTML support for email with better support for attachments, standard.
BTW, since I’m on a roll, please add to the wish list: better audio quality (stereo speakers like my Sanyo M1 has) and a better quality camera/lens that you don’t need a tripod to take decent photos.
I found it insulting that a entry-level Palm Centro with a lower resolution (1.3MP) camera takes good pictures AND video, includes support for viewing videos on YouTube and has clearer audio from the built-in mono speaker than my Curve!!! That really ticks me off!!! Also, please have your offerings utilize the Bluetooth feature by allowing us to import our address books from other non-BlackBerry phones like the Palm Centro does!!!
I would like for RIM to succeed by making adjustments to the consumer side of the market for market driven requests.
We shouldn’t have to purchase third party add-ons for what should be offered from RIM as “standard equipment”, because most smartphones with either Windows Mobile 6.x or the iPhone 3G already have those features standard, sans the camcorder function in the iPhone.
RIM, please get with the program!!! ASAP!!!

Update to the v4.5 OS on your device and it adds the Video Camera application. However, to use it, you must have an external MicroSD card in it.
