If you’ve ever looked at your solar calculator and wondered why your mobile phone doesn’t have the same feature, here’s some good news for you. Samsung has just released the “Blue Earth” phone, the first phone with solar powered batteries.
The device, which features a solar panel located on the back of the phone, can generate “enough electronic power to call anytime anywhere.” The Blue Earth phone also comes with a 5 star energy efficient charger which operates on less than 0.03W of electricity while in standby.
The phone also includes a pedometer based ‘eco walk’ feature to measure how much CO2 has been offset by walking versus driving, the resulting benefit displayed as a number of trees saved.
